Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) are areas that are particularly significant in terms of landscape, scenic beauty, wildness, tranquillity, natural heritage or cultural heritage.
They are protected by legislation and properties in an AONB do not benefit from the same extent of permitted development rights as in most other areas.
These areas are also known as National Landscapes.
